Her Leopard Heels

I'm telling this story for a friend...these aren't my size 9's :( But, the story of these shoes is a story all women have about some pair in their closets. She loved the shoes, bought the shoes, wore the shoes only once but just long enough to know they were a half size too small and equally long enough to know the store from which they were bought would not be taking them back. Sometimes we try to continue wearing shoes that are too small for us but she's done doing that. Life is too short for wearing heels that don't fit you. Her lost is another girl's reward. FANTASTIC!

Consignment: Practice what you preach?

I just bought this wonderfully sexy Roberto Cavalli dress from a consignment shop and it got me thinking. Would someone who sells clothing on consignment be a fraud if they didn't also buy consignment pieces? I'm not sure of the answer but I think the old adage "Practice what you preach" may ring true here. Anyway, I was more than happy to make this purchase....now where should I wear it?

Lost & Found

I have been looking for this since I conceived the idea of my consignment shop. I've lived in Connecticut, Atlanta, DC, and NYC and where was it, tucked away in one of many stuffed to the brim closets at Mummzie's (Mom's) house. Hopefully some special someone will enjoy this gold satin covered black lace number. I still love it like I wore it yesterday... my Senior Prom Dress! Prom dresses bring you back to a time that represents a stage between your youth and your coming of age. An awesome time in your life right before...well, some more fun filled years.

AB's 1st Vending Event

Our first vending event was this past weekend. Here is just one of the photo's. More are on our FB Fan Page (Affordable Beauty Inc.). The event was successful and we are looking forward to doing more in the future as we continue to spread the word on the coolness of consignment.

5 Money-Wise tips for Now & Always Miss Fashionista!

1) Max out or at the very least contribute to your company's 401(k) plan.
2) Know where your assets are and what they look like. (if you know the current state of your assets you will have a better understanding of the direction you should be moving in).
3) Keep track of all the little things you spend money on for two weeks and cut back on those things
(eating out, buying coffee, snack in the office etc.)
4) Consider consigning items in your closet that are in good condition that you no longer use (See the 411 on Consignment October 2009)

Luca Luca

This is one of our newest pieces and I just love it so I thought I'd share it. Its a silver based sequins skirt in the Luca Luca collection by Luca Orlandi.

Love, Loss & What I Wore

I wasn't quite sure who would be interested in seeing this play with me so I saw it last night solo. It was great, laughable and relatable. I suspect the crowd was 98% women. It was similar to the Vagina Monologues except there were five women performing rather than one and the stories were themed around clothes rather than well...vagina's. The stories of the clothes, purses and shoes lived up to the plays title.

Sunshine

Maybe I've wore these twice, three times max. The most memorable wearing by far was the first time, law school graduation. At the time it was the pinnacle of achievement, the real deal, the feat surmounted if there ever was one. I never smiled as much as at my law school graduation until I got married. I thought I was done with school FOREVER!!!! What was I thinking, are we ever ever ever done with school forever? Forever is so permanent. Now I feel as if there is always the possibility that we might go back for one more degree to put the icing on the cake.

About

Hello,

The 411 on Consignment

I have heard that I need to clarify what consignment shopping is really all about. I will start with what a consignment shop is not. A consignment shop is not a Thrift Store. When I think of a thrift store, I think of an indoor tag sale. A consignment shop has quality merchandise that a seller does not need or want anymore but which is still in very good condition. Consignment Shops in my experience tend to be more selective in the items they put in their shops.
